Robert Byrd's ridiculous criticism of President Bush--the Commander and
Chief's visit with the troops on the USS Abraham Lincoln is laughable,
if it were not so Sick.
Byrd Bona Fides:
This from a person who was the Grand Kleagle of the KKK.
Byrd, in a 1940s letter: "I will never serve in the military with a
Negro by my side." "I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled
in the dirt never to rise again, than see this beloved land of ours become
degraded by Race Mongrels, a throwback to the Blackest Specimen of the
Wilds."
He also spent 14 hours filibustering against the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
He voted against the only two blacks ever nominated for the U.S. Supreme
Court, Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas.
